Self Improvement is really "self" explanatory. (see the wordplay?) It simply refers to improving oneself and it does not need to specifically refer to one aspect of a person but rather a holistic approach. I got into self-improvement after I watched a youtube video. The video did not hook me up on the concept but rather on the fact that I was not aware of how much I could get better everywhere! The video that I saw is shown below and it was made by improvement pill and the story he shares resonates with me.

Self-improvement is a process and a very simple process indeed. It can be broken up into 3 very simple steps.

  1. Action

  2. Reflection

  3. Betterment

and that's that. Simple right? No, well at least not as simple as it seems. To give an example, let us say john is smoking and that is the action (step 1). The reflection would be that it is dangerous and should not be done again. The betterment would be to stop smoking. If it only were this simple. Chances are John would continue smoking. To answer why this happens, the book, "atomic habits", can be referred to but that will be talked about later in another blog post.

To actually improve yourself, you have to first learn to be honest with yourself. If you are reading this far into the post, you might already see that you need to change or improve and that is awesome. I realised I needed to self-improve once I saw the youtube video above and I walked to the bathroom, removed my shirt and took a good look in the mirror and asked myself, who I was and who I want to be? Now that you understand the concept of self-improvement, look out for other blog posts on how to self-improve in higher detail.
